Glad you were able to take such beautiful photos that they will be able to treasure forever. CDH occurs in 1 out of every 2500 births. That makes it as common as cystic fibrosis. However, most people have never heard of it unless they've known somebody who has been affected by it. When it's discovered on ultrasound, most mothers are asked when they would like to schedule their abortion. There is hope for these children. Many hospitals specialize in taking care of these babies, including Shands at UF. While the national survival rate for CDH babies is still only 50-60%, Shands and other specialty centers have an 85-90% survival rate. Thanks to you and the family for sharing these photos and bringing attention to CDH. Even as a CDH cherub, Silas is bringing awareness to this issue. So sorry for this family.
